Salt & Straw's February Ice Cream Flavors Feature Local Chocolatiers
To celebrate the month of love (and chocolate), Abbot Kinney’s recently debuted Salt & Straw scoop shop is thinking outside the heart-shaped candy box with five new ice cream flavors featuring some of LA’s best locally made chocolate.
Head ice cream maker Tyler Malek, who’s invented hundreds of creative seasonally-inspired flavors, collaborated with his favorite local chocolatiers to come up with this special selection available now through the end of February by the scoop or pint. Here’s what’s on the menu.
Compartes’ Coney Island – A riff on the chocolate maker’s Coney Island bar, this vanilla-based ice cream is swirled with rainbow sprinkles, caramelized waffle cones and chunks of Compartes' chocolate.
Ococoa’s Fig & Sesame Butter Cup – Chocolate sesame ice cream speckled with chocolate butter cups and ribbons of fig jam.
Twenty-Four Blackbirds’ Cardamom & Candied Cocoa Nibs – A sweet cream ice cream sprinkled with freshly grated black cardamom and laced with candied, single-origin cocoa nib morsels.
Bar Au Chocolat’s Date Night – A freshly roasted chocolate ice cream mixed with sweet, fruity dates that playfully nods to the popularity of date shakes in SoCal.
Chocovivo’s Olive Oil & Blood Orange Chocolate Milk Sorbet – A creamy sorbet that’s been spun with a chocolate paste made from lightly stone-ground cacao beans doused in blood oranges and olive oil.
Chocolate by the bar along with plenty of other locally made sweets and sundries, including caramels from Venice's Rose Avenue Sweets, are also available in the shop, making this an easy pick for Valentine's Day gifting (or indulging).
