Tacos, Tequila and Tan Lines: A Short List of Cinco de Mayo Events in Venice
With so many Cinco de Mayo events and tequila specials going on in LA this weekend, options seem endless. But if you’re in Venice, and looking to fiesta within biking - ideally walking - distance from home, the possibilities are infinitely more manageable. Here’s a short list of what we’re considering.
La Cabana
At the corner of Lincoln & Rose, La Cabana’s tacos, margaritas and house-made tortillas are standard routine. For Cinco de Mayo they’ll have a live mariachi band on the rooftop, drink specials starting with $4 half-margaritas at brunch, and then $5 Dos XX on tap, $7 house margaritas, and $10 double house margaritas. If you’re there between 5 to 7 p.m., heads up for KROQ’s Kat Corbett and party bus friends. La Cabana is pit stop No. 1 on their Cinco de Mayo pub crawl. // La Cabana 738 Rose Ave. Venice, CA 90291 // (310) 392-7973
Oscar’s Cerveteca
One of the few places to get a good michelada around here, Oscar’s menu additions for the day include fresh strawberry margaritas and pork tacos from a whole roasted pig. // Oscar's Cerveteca 523 Rose Ave. Venice, CA 90291 // (310) 310-8937
Cabo Cantina
It’s not called Cinco de Drinko for nothing. If you’re ready to cut to the chasers, then see you at Cabo. They’ll have a fence set up in the front lot for additional beachside boozing. Plus, there will be live bands in the courtyard at the end of Washington. // Cabo Cantina 30 Washington Boulevard Venice/Marina Del Rey, CA 90292 // (310) 306-2500
Townhouse
Mezcal or tequila? Pick your poison beachside at Townhouse and the downstairs Del Monte Speakeasy, open from noon to 2 a.m. on Cinco de Mayo. Townhouse will serve pitchers of mezcal or tequila margaritas, mezcal or tequila flights, and tequila shot and beer specials. They’ll also have agua fresca highballs, house-made Bloody Marias, and remember the pork tacos at Oscar’s? They’ll have those pork tacos here too, courtesy of Oscar’s, for $1 each. All-day entertainment includes burlesque dancers and live music. // Townhouse 52 Windward Ave. Venice, CA 90291 // (310) 392-4040
Danny’s Venice
You had us at michelada in a can - Tecate, lime, hot sauce and chili salt rim - for $4. Right across from Townhouse and steps from the beach, Danny's will also serve up Avion tequila shots for $5, Corona and shot of Zarco tequila for $10, and house margs for $5. // Danny's Venice 23 Windward Ave. Venice, CA // (310) 566-5610
Zanzibar
Definitely not walking distance, probably not biking distance after a day of tequila specials under the sun, but totally worth a quick cab ride to Santa Monica to see El Luchador live wrestling for a $5 cover. Doors open 9 p.m. More drink specials: $5 tequila shots, $3 Dos XX. // Zanzibar 1301 5th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401 // (310) 451-2221
Mar Vista Farmers’ Market
For family fun on Cinco de Mayo, the Mar Vista Farmers’ Market will have a live salsa band, mariachis and pinatas for the kids on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
