Bulletproof Coffee Shop Opens On Main

Is that a Bulletproof coffee shop moving into the former Starbucks space on Main Street? You butter believe it. Located directly across the street from Gunpowder tea house, these alt brand cafes are coming after cortados with guns a blazin'.

If there's one thing that can satisfy all the paleo-yogi-bodybuilding-techie-foodies in the Venice/ SM area it's a hot cup of butter coffee in the morning. Supposedly, the combo of fresh-brewed premium coffee Vitamixed up with a scoop of unsalted grass-fed butter and a shot of coconut oil sustains a better buzz than your average cream and sugar routine, minus the mid-morning crash. Anyone can make butter coffee at home, and Lela Buttery (yes, that is her real name) has been serving her signature Buttery Brew at Another Kind Of Sunrise on Abbot Kinney.

But what makes Bulletproof butter coffee unique, aside from its trademarked brand, is that it uses proprietary "toxin-free" coffee beans and Brain Octane oil, which is supposed to be 18 times stronger than regular coconut oil, designed for mental clarity and metabolic function, and boosts energy while curbing hunger.

Bulletproof founder David Aspery says in his butter coffee demo video here that his recipe was inspired by Tibetan yak butter tea, which has been around for centuries. After a couple years of research he optimized the formula to sustain energy for six hours, and because he uses it as a meal replacement in the morning, his body burns fat for energy all day long.

This is the first of his Bulletproof cafes with more to come. Obviously there's no lemon pound cake or croissants on the menu, but there will be lunch options as well as a retail wall featuring all of the Bulletproof products and accessories.
