"First Class Ever" Yoga Party This Sunday
As any yogini will attest, there's something for everyone when it comes to finding the right class. Whether you seek deep spiritual cleansing or something on the lighter side, you will never want for options living here on the Westside. For any first-timers out there who still need a little nudge, there's a party this Sunday that just happens to include yoga, and it promises to have you ROML (rolling on the mat laughing).
It's called "First Class Ever" and it doesn't necessarily have to be your first class ever. It will be hosted by the Dirty Girls Project, and organization started by two sisters who help to connect and promote "empowered, badass women of all ages." Here's a video showing how they got the name Dirty Girls back in the 90s when they were high school seniors. (It's not what you think. Unless you're thinking about a group of friends who cared much more about creative instincts than fitting into the norm.) The name has remained an emblem of empowerment, originality, and bad-assery ever since.
"First Class Ever" is their way of introducing women's and girls' organizations to yoga while also demystifying whatever preconceived notions people might have about it. They've teamed up with Myrah Penaloza, a Lululemon ambassador and co-creator of Bloom to create an afternoon of fun and entertainment centered around an introduction to yoga.
The event kicks off with complimentary ginger shots and a belly laughs with Etta Johnson, then moves into a guided yoga session with Penaloza. Expect a diverse group of people, including original Dirty Girls Harper and Amber Willat, and a variety of entertainment -- from a Native American flute player to DJ jams -- as well as treats from sponsors including Kind Snacks, Zico Coconut Water, Bai Beverages, smoothies by Philosophie, Numi Tea and I Am Tea Lounge, Amy's Pastry, and Starfire Water, which actual has gold mineral components in it.
Suggested admission to the event is $10 and/or a bag of clothes or canned food to be donated. All proceeds will be donated to the partnered women’s groups including Midnight Mission Womens’ Shelter, LA Girls Club, NAMI (National Association for Mental Illness).
