Summer's Last Twilight Concert With Charles Bradley
It'll be a super-groovy, soulful farewell to this year's summer Twilight Concerts at the Santa Monica Pier as Charles Bradley takes the stage. Epitomizing soul and funk from the 60s and 70s, Bradley is often likened to James Brown and Otis Redding.
The free performance runs from 7 to 10 p.m. and opens with New Orleans funk and blues band King James & The Special Men.
Tonight's sunset is also brilliantly timed – precisely at 7:05 p.m. – with the start of the show, so get to the beach a little early and watch the sun sink just as the music starts to play. (HINT: Date night.) It's bittersweet to say goodbye to long summer nights and free performances of this caliber at the pier, but some much-anticipated concerts are right over yonder. Specifically, Way Over Yonder.
The west coast extension of the annual Newport Folk Festival returns for a second run at the pier September 26th and 27th. Tickets start at $40.50 for Friday passes, and run to $86 for two-day passes. Stay tuned for our ticket giveaways next week. We'll be announcing details on our Facebook page.
