Grease Sing-Along At Rydell (Venice) High School

Spend the first weekend of fall reminiscing those su-u-mmer nights at the outdoor screening and sing-along of Grease; the annual tradition continues tonight at Rydell High (Venice High School) where the classic movie musical was filmed in 1978. Poodle skirts and leather jackets encouraged.

Every fall, the Venice High School Alumni Association hosts its Rockin' Rydell Sing-Along Screening at Watson Football Field where Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) reacquaint at the start of their senior year following a summer of love that ended too soon as Sandy was supposed to move home to Australia.

In Grease's opening number "Summer Nights," familiar shots of Venice High and Watson Field frame the scenes as they regale their friends about their true love's pact.

Bring low chairs or blankets, and find a spot on that same field starting at 4 p.m. in front of the outdoor movie screening. A taco truck and barbecue from the local firehouse will be offering food for sale. There will also be raffles and student-run booths to add to the festivities. It's free to attend and recommended for all ages. Donations are appreciated and go to the VHS Alumni Association's general fun for scholarships and other academic projects.
