Mashing Pumpkins: Where To Get Your Fix of Pumpkin Treats and Sweets In Venice

What are we grateful for? It starts with pumpkin and ends with pie. If you heart the season's favorite squash as much as we do, then you've already warmed up with a pumpkin spice latte or stocked the fridge with your preferred pumpkin ale, but we thought you might also like to try a few other places around town that are making us feel all festive with their pumpkin treats and sweets popping into the menu.

The "I am Creative Pumpkin Pie" at Cafe Gratitude is raw perfection. Coconut milk, butternut squash, date paste, Irish moss and ginger juice are blended with vanilla and spices to make this rich and decadently delicious vegan pie. A traditional graham cracker crust is hardly missed with the sweet and crunchy blend of pecans and dates used in this one.

Whatever you order during your next visit at Library Alehouse, make sure to save room for a pint of Dogfish Head Punkin Ale on tap and a pumpkin spice cupcake with cream cheese frosting for dessert. Even those who are not huge fans of traditional pumpkin pie will give a thumbs up to these two.

For a seasonal treat in the a.m. hours, warm up with pumpkin pancakes at Brick House Kitchen. They're super moist and fluffy and topped with housemade orange and honey butter. Add a side of bacon to this sweet and slightly spiced stack and you're feeling all warm and cozy for the rest of the day.

If you're looking for a serious pumpkin fix, then settle in for all three courses at Centanni's Trattoria. Start with fire-roasted kabocha pumpkin soup with a side of grilled bread for dipping. Then, go for pumpkin ravioli, sauteed with butter, fresh sage and parmesan, and for dessert ... a housemade pumpkin cheesecake topped with a skim of pumpkin pie and drizzled with caramel. Someone might have to roll your pumpkin-lovin' self out of there, but it's so worth it.

To settle your pumpkin cravings with something on the healthy side, try the pumpkin seed moon milk, a unique seasonal treat from Moon Juice, the cold-pressed, organic juice shop on Rose Ave. Also very festive and totally good for you is the Spiced Yam moon juice, one of our all-time favorites.
