Abbot Kinney has its Blue Star Donuts and soon it'll welcome another Portland sweets sensation Salt & Straw, the small-batch ice creamery with famously inventive flavors like avocado and strawberry sherbet, and black olive brittle and goat cheese. To celebrate the soon-to-debut Venice outpost at the corner of California Ave, the Salt & Straw scoop truck will be serving ice cream today in front of the in-progress shop starting at 2 p.m.

More scoop truck appearances are scheduled in the coming weeks, with some sweet deals too. On Wednesday, November 18 and Wednesday, December 2, the scoop truck will offer dollar scoops on Abbot Kinney at locations to be determined. They said to expect even more surprise visits leading up until opening day, which will be "soon" but no official date has been set.

The Salt & Straw team is also going to be hosting hiring events at the shop this Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m., and next Saturday and Sunday at the same time. During these events, the scoop truck will also be parked out front serving ice cream at regular prices.
