Venice Beach 4th of July Festivities
Happy bday America! Let's get this party popping. This 4th of July weekend, we have plenty of local festivities to don our star-spangled getups, so keep your parking spots safe, and travel by foot, bike and board.
Ready for an early start, like 9:30 a.m. early? Then head over to Main Street for the annual Fourth of July Parade. There will be floats, horses and vintage fire trucks. But the greatest spectacle of all will be the spectators. This year's parade theme is "May The 4th Be With You," so just imagine the costumes. Hashtag sci-fi Americana.
Next up, grab your rubber ducky and head over to the Venice Canals for the annual Rubber Ducky Race at 1:30 p.m. What's a Rubber Ducky Race? Lots of Venice locals toss buckets of rubber duckies into the canals (careful not to disturb the real duckies) and the owner of the duck who makes it to the finish line first wins a cash prize. Afterward, there's a Downwind Regatta at 2 p.m. and a Crazy Hat Contest. These winners also win cash prizes, which will all be handed out at the Dessert Party at 2:30 p.m.
Obviously the Boardwalk is going to be booming, but if you head south of the Venice Pier, you can snag a primo spot to watch the Marina del Rey fireworks show happening at 9 p.m. It's going to last 20 minutes.
If you are trying to avoid the beach but still want to play in the sand, then check out Sunny Spot's beachside picnic. There will be sand, games and even spiked lemonade courtesy of the Stoli Truck. If you're trying to avoid 4th of July, Sunny Spot will have its beach party Saturday and Sunday too. The Erwin is going to be hosting an all-day bbq bash as well. Get two beers and a hot dog for $20. The live band from 1 to 6 p.m. downstairs at Barlo is free.
Technically it's also First Friday, and technically it's supposed to be canceled due to the holiday, but The Brig assures us that there will be plenty of our favorite food trucks parked and ready to serve us delicious sustenance from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. including bites from Cousin's Main Lobster, Kogi BBQ, The Grilled Cheese Truck, Dogtown Dogs, Coolhaus, Creasian, South Philly Experience, Roadhouse Rotisserie and Currywurst.
With all of this excitement did you almost forget that the Twilight Concert Series starts next week? We didn't think so.
