The Venice At Crawl is switching things up a bit for 2018. Rather than hosted events throughout the neighborhood, each quarterly crawl will be held in a concentrated pocket of Venice. The first event takes place Thursday, March 15th from Windward Avenue to the beach, 6 to 10 p.m.

New Year's Day Venice Penguin Swim

Start 2017 with a brisk dip into the Pacific at the Venice Breakwater.

Registration starts at 11 a.m. Everyone in the water by noon. Two swimmers who brave the chilly surf and mark the quickest 400-yard lap around a buoy with be crowned as penguin royalty. Dare to take home the victory and bragging rights or opt for the 100-yard "fun" course. 

Everyone who finishes will be rewarded with a certificate, snacks and, best of all, a hot drink.

Venice Family Holiday Festival

The sixth annual Family Holiday Festival hosted by the Venice Neighborhood Council will be held this Saturday, December 17, from 11am to 3pm at Oakwood Recreation Center.  The free event is open to the community.

Activities include free pictures with Santa, real snow slides, moon bounces, a kids fitness challenge, arts and crafts, toy raffles, and snacks provided by some of Venice's best restaurants.

The event is made possible by ZEFR and Assemblywoman Autumn Burke. Burke represents the 62nd District in the California State Assembly, which includes coastal Los Angeles and LA County. She recently won her re-election earlier this month.ZEFR is a Venice-based tech company that specializes in video on YouTube and Facebook.  ZEFR was born in Venice and now employs 300 people in the community.

Venice Canals Holiday Boat Parade

"Where the Palm Trees Glisten" will be the theme at the 2016 Venice Canals Holiday Boat Parade and the Best Dressed Homes and Bridges Contest.

Gondolas and crafty wind-powered vessels are all welcome to participate in the annual parade set for Sunday, December 11. Boats will line up at 3:30 p.m. at the corner of Eastern and Carroll Canals with the parade to start at 4 p.m.

Winners of the Best Dressed Homes and Bridges contest, which will be judged on Saturday December 10th, will be announced at the start of the boat parade. Prizes will also be awarded for best boat decorations and originality.

8th Annual SANTA Monica Pub Crawl

The merriest night of the year in Santa Monica - the 8th Annual SANTA Monica Pub Crawl - returns Saturday December 10 at 5 p.m., presented by Grubhub! Join thousands of crawlers spreading merry good cheer throughout the city and raising money for those in need through the Westside Food Bank. Choose between the Pier, Promenade, Main St. & Wilshire routes, get your tickets, and celebrate the holidays at the SANTA Monica Pub Crawl.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 day of for the SMPC official wristband, which gives you access to food and drink specials at all of the participating bars on your route. All participants are encouraged to dress in Santa or holiday attire, either individually or as a team. Marina del Rey Snow Day and Holiday Boat Parade

The 54th annual holiday boat parade in Marina del Rey begins with a snow day in Burton Chace Park. From noon until 6 p.m., kids can play in the snow, sled, get their faces painted, and then a fireworks show signals the start of the two-hour parade. Fisherman’s Village and nearby bars and restaurants offer the best spots to see the decked out boats illuminate the channels.

39th Annual Santa Monica to Venice Christmas Run

One of the Westside's longest running Christmas traditions and fundraisers, the 39th annual Santa Monica-Venice Christmas Run returns to the Boardwalk on Saturday, December 10.

Starting in Santa Monica at Barnard Way, the run includes a 5k and a 10k run (or walk) down the beach path, with many participants and their babies (and fur babies) decked out in holiday style. From Santa hats to gingerbread-man costumes, the more the merrier, and there are prizes to be won for best costumes at the finish line. 

The Christmas Run ends at the Venice Pavilion (on Windward at the Venice Sign), and here you'll also find the 1k Kids Fun Run course, along with music and entertainment. 

Registration is $45 in advance or $50 on the weekend of the event. The Kids Fun Run is $20. It includes a long-sleeve running tee, bib with embedded chip timing, finisher's medal, on-course and recovery refreshments, and pre- and post-race entertainment

Peruse in-store events as Christmas carolers harmonize up and down the block. In addition to sledding, there's plenty of activities for the little ones too, including face painting and crafts.

It's the 10th annual Muscle Beach Toy Drive, and it's easy to do your part. Several businesses throughout Venice will have drop-off bins to collect unwrapped gifts. Sometimes they'll even treat you to perks like discounts as a thanks for your generosity when you donate. (Toys should be around $20.) 

You can also bring a toy to the annual Venice Sign Holiday Lighting party on December 2. There will be a collection booth set up. Or, wait until the two-day toy drive extravaganza on Muscle Beach, December 3 and 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Santa and his entourage of lovely lady elves are due to ride in on an LAPD open sleigh on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Venice Sign Holiday Lighting

The Venice sign will be made merry and bright at the 5th annual holiday lighting ceremony and block party. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. at Windward and Pacific, and as in years past, a surprise guest will do the honors of flipping the switch at 8 p.m.

For those who'd like to participate, there will also be a toy collection happening for the 10th Annual Muscle Beach Toy Drive (in conjunction with the LAPD Pacific Division & Pacific Area Boosters) and the Great Venice Toy Drive.

Calling all Mo Bros and Mo Sistas—Stouts N Stashes returns to Venice on Saturday, November 19 to celebrate the month of Movember. 

Starting November 1st, men around the world will grow a mustache to raise funds and awareness for charities of their choice focused on men's health. Culminating the effort here in Venice will be the fourth annual Stouts N Staches fest, a beachside bar crawl leading to live music, local vendors and fresh shaves at the Hotel Erwin. A portion of proceeds from Stouts N Staches benefits the Venice Family Clinic. 

General admission tickets available now are $12 each. Day-of tickets are $15 at the door.

WestEdge Design Fair

Furniture to fixtures, one of Southern California's biggest celebrations of all things modern returns to Santa Monica this week.

The annual WestEdge Design Fair returns to The Barker Hangar November 3rd through the 6th, welcoming everyone from trade pros to home improvers, and anyone who just simply loves to look (and shop) modern design.

The three-day event begins with an opening party Thursday night and continues with full itineraries Friday through Sunday with indoor and outdoor installations, designer meet-and-greets, and educational seminars that cover topics from "Health and Wellness in Chic and Sophisticated Interiors" presented by The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), to "Designing for Resale: Upping the Ante on Home value Through Smart Design," moderated by the Coldwell Banker Architectural Division.

General admission tickets available on-site are $25 each. Kids under 12 are free, and pups are welcome too. Weekend passes (including parking) are $45, and tickets for Thursday night's opening night, benefitting Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House charity, are $95. They include cocktails, passed hors d’oeuvres and some other perks like a chance to win a one-of-a-kind Schwinn bike at the silent auction, an all-access pass to WestEdge and a one-year digital subscription to Architectural Digest.
