Venice local Rob Shanahan has photographed every rock icon from Keith Richards and Paul McCartney to Sting, Elton John and Eddie Van Halen. Since 2001, he's also been Ringo Starr's personal photographer. Tonight at QArt gallery, Shanahan will debut an exhibit of some of his favorite shots at MdR's QArt gallery on Washington Blvd.
His limited edition series includes 75 signed, matted and framed gallery prints from his personal collection. The photo paper is archival museum quality, measuring 24” x 36” framed, with a 3” matte and 2.5” custom black frame. He'll also be introducing some of his favorite images as stretched canvas prints 40'' x 60''.
6-time Grammy Award winner Daniel Ho will also be providing the music for the gallery opening tonight, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

Spend a day on Venice Beach improving your photography skills at a Venice Beach Photo Workshop led by L.A.-based photojournalists Jonathan Alcorn and Ted Soqui with special guest Nick Ut, a photographer for the Associated Press. There's more than 100 years of photo taking and storytelling experience between the three of them, and on Saturday July 25, they're offering to motivate and inspire your photographic vision.
This is a hands-on, in the field workshop, that teaches photographers at all levels how to use the camera as a storytelling tool. Stops will include the Venice Canals, the Boardwalk, the Venice Skate Park, and on the beach near the breakwater. There's also an outdoor portrait component to the workshop.
