Pack a picnic and bring the kids for an outdoor movie at Oakwood Park Saturday night. Hosted by councilman Mike Bonin, this free neighborhood event includes games, popcorn and a screening of Pixar's The Incredibles. is hosting an outdoor movie night at Oakwood free neighborhood movie night at the Oakwood Recreation Center (767 California St) this Saturday and I would love to see you there! Activities start at 7 p.m. The movie shows at sundown.

The 9th annual Venice BBQ & Community Potluck Picnic returns to Oakwood Park on Saturday, August 8.

Local fire station #63's retired chief Jeremiah Johnson and master grillers Todd von Hoffmann and Michael Watkins, will be manning the flames and grilling burgers, hot dogs, chicken and pulled pork. Bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share.

The free event, hosted by the Venice Neighborhood Council, will also feature live music, games and activities for all ages, as well as guest visits from city, state and federal elected officials.

“The BBQ is our biggest event of the year," says VNC President Mike Newhouse. "It is an opportunity to meet old friends, make new friends and celebrate Venice, this special place we all call home."

Summer is here and family movie nights have returned to Oakwood Park. Big Hero 6 is up next on Saturday, July 18th.

Bring blankets and low chairs and find a good spot on the grassy field. The movie shows at 8:30 p.m., but the fun really starts around 6 p.m. with group activities for kids hosted by Super Soccer Stars. You can also grab dinner (or dessert) at the Wafl Truck. Check out the menu for sweet and savory waffle sandwiches and waffle burgers.

Movies are free, and the event is organized by the Oakwood Recreation Center to bring neighbors together in a family-friendly environment.

This Sunday, take the kids out for FREE activities and outdoor movie night at Oakwood Park. There will be shield karate, super soccer stars, face painting and more. Food trucks will also be lined up for dinner, and they'll be playing the Lego Movie outside at about 8:00 p.m. when the sun sets.

Oakwood Park launches a summer series of evening Sunday funday activities starting June 8. From food trucks to movie night in the park, parents and Oakwood's advisory board members are working together to create more family-friendly gatherings at the community park and recreation center.

Oakwood's Food Truck Sundays will happen every Sunday through August 2nd, and run from 4 to 8pm. 10 percent of the proceeds from selected food trucks will go towards park improvements.
