Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams Opens on Rose Ave
Sweater weather is still in full effect, and going out for ice cream may not be top of mind -- until now. Ohio darling Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams has opened on Rose Avenue bringing a taste of the Midwest to Venice with down-home flavors like Gooey Butter Cake, Brambleberry Crisp, and Middle West Whiskey & Pecans.
Made with farm-fresh ingredients and dairy from grass-grazed cows, Jeni's was ahead of the artisanal ice cream curve when it opened up shop in 2002, and owner Jeni Britton Bauer has since picked up a James Beard award for her cookbook full of inventive ice cream recipes.
To celebrate its Westside debut, Jeni's will treat everyone to a free scoop at its opening party on Thursday, February 9 at 7 p.m. The first 50 people in line will also receive a Jeni’s swag bag.
The bright and airy 1,400 square-foot scoop shop is located inside the new, ultra-mod complex at the corner of Rose and Rennie avenues, taking up residence next to Venice-based bedding and home goods purveyor Parachute Home. This is the second L.A. location for Jeni's with the first in Los Feliz.
Saturday, February 4th, also happens to be National Ice Cream For Breakfast Day, and Jeni's is hosting a fundraiser for the occasion. Go for a scoop of Intelligentsia Black Cat Espresso, or for something reminiscent of that one fruity pebbled cereal we all loved with Saturday morning cartoons, try the Wildberry Lavender & Sweet Cream. From 9 a.m. until noon, 100 percent of proceeds from both L.A. scoop shops will go to Pass it Along Fund of the California Community Trust.
