It only makes sense that the worldly TOMS brand, a charitable One for One company that provides shoes and eye care to millions of people across the globe, is expanding into wearable maps. But home is where the heart is, and the just-debuted line of TOMS sunglasses and T-shirts are all about local love for Venice Beach.
Check out our new summer sunnies modeled by Riley Jo, visiting us from Vail, Colorado and getting ready for her first trip to the Boardwalk. These are the Phoenix sunglasses in honey crystal. The frames have signature hand-painted blue stripes and feature a printed map of Venice at the intersection of Venice Blvd. and Abbot Kinney, as do the carrying case and microfiber cloth.
The new sunglasses and T-shirts are available at the TOMS flagship store on Abbot Kinney, a craftsman cottage not far from where founder Blake Mycoskie began to build his empire in 2006. (His sister, Paige Mycoskie is the founder and designer of surf and ski brand Aviator Nation, just a few bungalows down Abbot Kinney.) The concept for his first and only retail space was to have it also serve as a contribution to the Venice community, a meeting place to work over free WiFi or to bring the kids for cookies and storytime. The indoor-outdoor retail space and coffee bar was designed by L.A.-based Commune Design and features multiple lounge areas for crafts nights and intimate movie screenings.
