See The Grunion Run On Venice Beach
Get up close and personal with a beach full of frisky grunion fish tonight as they swim ashore to lay and fertilize their eggs. This time of year grunion runs occur up and down the Cali coast, and when it happens here on a weekend, The Venice Oceanarium throws a grunion run partay!
Meet on the beach at the breakwater rocks around 11 p.m. If you're taking the kids, an afternoon nap may be in order, but if they've never seen one before, it's quite a spectacle as hundreds of fish emerge from the water and flop their way up onto the beach.
For more info, visit the Venice Oceanarium booth on Ocean Front Walk. They'll be there all afternoon, and between noon and 5 p.m., Beyond Baroque, a co-sponsor of the event, will be also be hosting a poetry reading in celebration of World Poetry Day with 15 poets.
