Weekend Roundup: Mint Juleps, Juice Cocktails, Chardonnay Run, More

There's a boozy theme to this weekend's happenings, and we're not even talking about an early start to Cinco de Mayo.

It's the first day of May on the First Friday of the month, so you know what that means. See you tonight on Abbot Kinney, and perhaps Saturday too. Willie Jane is hosting a Southern style soiree for the Kentucky Derby complete with $6 mint juleps and Derby coolers as well as contests for best dandy ensemble and Derby hat. If you've gotten a head start and you're already out and about on AK, check out Stephanie Johnson's sample sale happening until 6 p.m. and take advantage of deep discounts on designer travel and cosmetic cases.

If you're up around Lincoln tonight, there's a show at Paste promising art, drinks and darkness.

If you're looking for outdoor fun, Hotel Erwin is hosting another Fit To Feast, a workout on the beach and post-workout brunch at High for $45. There's also Waderlust 108 happening at the Santa Monica Pier. It's a “mindful triathlon” for $60 that brings together a 5k run, outdoor yoga and guided meditation, plus lots of other activities off the mat. Saturday night, Juice Served Here on Lincoln is throwing a dance party with juice cocktails and live jams courtesy of The Makes.

For those still amped from Saturday's Mayweather/Pacquia fight and fresh off training at the Santa Monica stairs, we suggest The Chardonnay Run. Yep, a 5k that ends at the Santa Monica Pier where you'll be greeted with wine at the finish line. You'll also be treated to fruits and cheese as well as food trucks and live music.

Speaking of fruits and cheese and delicious Sunday snacking, have you been to the Artisan Market on Abbot Kinney? It just started a few weeks ago and will be held every Sunday at The Cook's Garden from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. They've made it kid-friendly too with fun activities, prize drawings. And chickens!

Next week is Cinco de Mayo, and if you're in the mood for something a little more fancy than a Corona dunked inside your frozen margarita (not that there's anything wrong with that), check out the Rose Room for a special dinner featuring chef Roy Handler.
