Weekend Roundup: Moto Rally, Tasting Tour, Save The Dates

(Photo: VVMC)

Happy Friday, friends. If you're feeling especially drained heading into the weekend, blame it on the Harvest Moon/ Super Moon earlier this week. All that cosmic energy forcing us all to connect with unconscious feelings had everyone so emo that we even made a mix tape.

Now it's time to rev up our engines in more ways than one. Saturday is the annual Venice Vintage Motorcycle Club Ride & Rally. The rumblin' begins at 9 a.m. with kickstands up in front of The Stronghold on Abbot Kinney for a cruise up PCH to Malibu, preferably on your sweet vintage ride, but everyone on two wheels is welcome. Later at the rally, enter your bike in the vintage motorcycle contest to win trophies and prizes. The rally begins at 11 a.m. on Dell Ave and South Venice Blvd. with live music, vendor booths, beer garden, and the Miss Venice Vintage Pinup Contest. There's also the much-anticipated charity bike raffle in which one lucky winner will ride home on a 1973 Honda CB 350 G Street Tracker, built by Scot DiLalla for the event. Tickets are $10 and benefit the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.

On Sunday, chefs welcome you to sip and sample the best of what they have to offer at the annual Taste Of Venice. The day is divided into three courses, if you will. First, there's an opening reception at the Electric Lodge, where restaurants throughout Venice, from Superba Food + Bread on Lincoln Blvd. to Poke Poke on the Boardwalk, will offer small bites during a silent auction. Next, there's a walking tour along Abbot Kinney, led by "LA Tastemaker" chefs and food writers, where you'll pop into restaurants and cafes to meet the chefs and sample the goods. And finally, there's a closing reception featuring coffee, sweets and other treats. Read more details here.

This is a thing in New York and other cities. And now it's a thing on Lincoln Blvd., right next to the brand new Juice Served Here. How far we've come.

Venice Art Crawl: The quarterly Venice Art Crawl happens next Thursday, September 18. It sneaks up quickly, and there are so many great shows and parties to attend, you have to have your game plan. Keep an eye over here as more of the evening's events are posted in the next few days.

Folk Fest: You know what else is going to sneak up quickly? The Way Over Yonder folk fest at the Santa Monica Pier. It's not until September 26th and 27th, but you'll want to get your tickets before they sell out. If you prefer to win your tickets, then stay tuned. We're giving away a pair next week on our Facebook page

Heat Wave! Have fun and stay cool. This weekend is going to be a scorcher with temps climbing up into the low 90s. The 90s! If it becomes too much, we recommend takeout from Kippy's Ice Cream and hunkering down under a big shady tree.
