Abbot Kinney Crawfest 2015

Abbot Kinney Crawfest (Photo courtesy The Brig)

Get your bibs and beers ready for Memorial Day weekend. 700 pounds of tasty crawfish will be served up at the annual Abbot Kinney Crawfest taking place Sunday, May 24th at The Brig's outdoor parking lot.

They're doing it up the traditional way, and if you've never been to a crawfish boil, it goes a little something like this: thousands of crawfish along with a mighty heap of spicy Andouille sausage and seasoning get steamed up in a pot, then poured out onto the table where you dig in with your hands, make a mess and fill your belly. It's all you can eat, including jambalaya and drink.

Organized by bartenders, chefs and friends of Reiss Co. (parent company of The Brig, Salt Air, Sunny Spot, A-Frame), a portion of the proceeds goes to Venice Community Housing, a charitable organization that helps ow-income people achieve economic and personal stability through non-profit affordable housing, education, and a comprehensive network of supportive services.

Tickets // Early bird tickets $45 (until May 21); $55 at the door; $65 VIP gets you a swag bag too.

Meet The Makers: Gifts That Give Back

Buying local is always a good thing. Buying locally made goods that also give back to charity? Even better. Join us December 14 for another Meet The Makers party at the Lincoln & Rose Pop-Up featuring our favorite holidays gifts that give back to a great cause.

Meet Angelina Attwell, founder of the Mighty Me Project, a photography and literacy program; Fel Adessa creator Fel Los Angeles, a gorgeous line of handbags and accessories that enables you to explore and give back to "fel-anthropoies" of your choice; Shiny soul Rachelle Tratt founder of The Neshama Project, a super soulful mission to spread love and light into the world one hamsa at a time and to support Innovation Africa; Julia Martin-Wrobel founder of Nite Spa, a late-night beauty haven that caters to all the busy ladies working a full daytime schedule and that raises funds and provides spa treatments to women battling cancer; and Courtney Guerra, our local Flower Ave Farmer who recently launched L'Atelier Vert, which means Green Workshop. As she grows and forages fresh veg and herbs for Alma, named the best restaurant in LA, she also teaches children about growing their own food and healthy cooking.

As you peruse their goods, mingle with friends from the neighborhood, and sip on champagne cocktails, you'll also get a chance to hear their stories and inspirations, and how it all ties back into charitable efforts.
