Rubber Ducky Race, July 4th Festivities Return To Venice Canals
Hot dogs, fireworks and rubber duckies—it's time for local Fourth of July festivities in Venice Beach with the annual Rubber Ducky Race, Downwind Regatta and community barbecue hosted at the Venice Canals.
Competitions will be held Saturday, July 4th starting at 12 p.m. at the 2400 block of Grand Canal Court, at the intersection of Court C, and along Linnie Canal from Grand Canal to Eastern Canal.
// Rubber Ducky Race @ 1:30 p.m.
Comical and always-entertaining, the 11th annual Rubber Ducky Race starts at 1:30 p.m. at the Dell Ave. Bridge over Linnie Canal. Hundreds of rubber duckies will be tossed into the canals for a chance to bob downstream and dodge gondolas for a fierce float to victory. Get in on the action and purchase a $5 ducky ahead of time starting Saturday, June 27 and Sunday June 28 from 12 to 4 p.m. at Dell Ave. and Court D. (across from the Children's Park). Duckies are also available on the day of the race from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., or until they sell out, which they always do. Cash prizes will be announced on event day.
// Downwind Regatta @ 1:45 p.m.
The Linnie Canal Downwind Regatta starts at 1:45 p.m. at Grand Canal, and according to the rules, "if it floats, it's a boat." The race is open to the community and anyone with a wind-powered boat. Entrants must fill out this entry form. Top prize is $150 to the most creative entry to finish the race; $100 for first place; $50 for second; and $25 for third.
// BBQ @ 12 to 2 p.m.
Hamburgers, turkey burgers, and hot dogs from Mark's Fire Grill will be offered for $5 each and includes a bottle of water. Food tickets are available for purchase at Linnie and Grand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
